Looking out to English Bay and the Georgia Strait, Vancouver-Point Grey encompasses the neighbourhoods of Kitsilano, West Point Grey, and the University Endownment Lands. It is home to some of the most popular beaches and parks in Greater Vancouver – Vanier Park, Kits Beach, Jericho, Spanish Banks, and the infamous Wreck Beach. Pacific Spirit Regional Park in the University Endownment Lands is one of the largest urban parks in the world. The Maritime Museum, the H.R. MacMillan Planetarium, the Vancouver Museum, and the Kitsilano Showboat attract thousands of visitors a year to the constituency.
Vancouver-Point Grey’s urban neighbourhoods revolve around vibrant shopping areas on West 4th Avenue, Broadway, Alma, and West 10th. The area has been well-known for celebrations in the Greek Community, Point Grey Fiesta Days, the annual Kits Soap Box Derby and Kits Days, and ‘Bard on the Beach’.
The constituency is also the proud home of one of Canada’s elite post-secondary institutions – the University of British Columbia. This growing and dynamic campus has 59,000 full and part-time students and boasts continued reinvestment in its libraries and research facilities. The 180,000 alumni of UBC have dispersed to over 120 countries around the world. The UBC campus is also a growing neighbourhood with a cross-section of housing for students and full-time residents alike.
